Is .info Domain Good?

Yesterday I purchased a web hosting+domain package and they gave me an extra .info domain for free. I have no problem at all because it is free for the first year. I have about 4 domain names and two of them are active, while the other two is still waiting for the contents. All are in .com and now I have a .info domain.

I am still wondering whether .info domain is good for search engine or not. Cosaaranda said (in Indonesian) that .info domain is difficult to be indexed by search engine. I have no idea how to monetize a .info domain. Right now, my focus is still in my two active domains and no time to write contents for the .info domain.

Do you have any idea about .info domain. Is it good to be monetized or branded?

Please share your experience in using .info domain by commenting below. Any information will be help.

Thank you.

Choosing Domain Name For Your Website

Yesterday I had a conversation with Jauhari about choosing domain name. The domain I pursued is already bought by other and will be expired in 2010 :( . Therefore I have to find other domain that is meet with my requirements.

SEOMoz has 12 rules to choose the right domain name for your brand new website, here is for the resume:

  1. Brainstorm 5 Top Keywords
  2. Make the Domain Unique
  3. Only Choose Dot-Com Available Domains
  4. Make it Easy to Type
  5. Make it Easy to Remember
  6. Keep the Name as Short as Possible
  7. Create and Fulfill Expectations
  8. Avoid Copyright Infringement
  9. Set Yourself Apart with a Brand
  10. Reject Hyphens and Numbers
  11. Don’t Follow the Latest Trends
  12. Use an Ajax Domain Selection Tool

In the other side Problogger writes about choosing brandable domain name or keyword rich domain name.

Because I do not have much money to pay advertising to promote my brand to get traffics, I decide to use keyword rich domain name to get visitors referred by search engine. The web is still under development. I will do a research after the domain and the website available on the net and share the result with you.

Meanwhile, would you please share your reason on choosing domain name? It will be a nice topic.

Thanks.

We’ll Kick You Back

Hello folks..

You must be wondering why there is less - instead of saying “no” :D - new post in Jauhari.Net, me and Jauhari were having huge workload. I have a job in redeveloping company’s website and Jauhari is still working with PHP Framework for his project. Jauhari may share his work later on.

Actually I am not redeveloping, but creating WordPress Theme for the website of the company. The theme WILL NOT be available for public due to the policy of the company. It finished yet. Also I have to setup a new cabling system for network and CCTV due to the new arrangement of factory layout.

Other job that made me far away from blogging is I am preparing for new look of my directory website to attract more visitor to submit their website.

That’s all my reason and I will share some of my work with you.

Next is Jauhari’s :D

Questions to Evaluate Your Website Quality

If you have a website, of course there will be two point of views to measure the quality of your website. First is by yourself as the owner (or maybe the developer) and the second one is by your visitors. The debate between this different point of view will result nothing.

Cumbrowski writes about it on Search Engine Journal. There are several aspects you need to pay attention of to measure website quality.

  1. Accessibility
  2. Navigation
  3. Design
  4. Content
  5. Security
  6. Other Technical and Marketing Considerations
  7. Legal Stuff/Re-Assurance/Legitimization

You can find the detail here. How about your website quality?

[Resolved]: Can Not Run Any Windows Command Prompt

Last day I got a problem with my laptop. I could not run any windows command prompt, such as ping, nslookup and tracert. I restarted it and gave no solution, the problem was still remain.

Command Not Working

I found this page on Google. It told me that Windows can not resolve the %SystemRoot% Environment Variable that can be checked by running “path” command. It returned:

%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:\Program
Files\ATI Technologies\ATI Control Panel;

To solution for this problem was founded here where the step by step is instructed below.

  1. Go to: Start > Run > Regedit
  2. Check: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment
Make sure that the registry key holding the path is of Reg_Expand_SZ type rather Reg_SZ type
  3. If the holding key is Reg_SZ change it into Reg_Expand_SZ by:
    • Double Click “Path” and copy it’s Data Value “…%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%; …” to avoid to rewrite it again
    • Delete the “Path”
    • Create New > Expandable String Value
    • Give “Path” as the name, double click it, and Paste the value copied in the previous step to the “Value Data” field
  4. Close the Regedit window and restart the laptop

Once the Windows is finish from loading, the command prompt works again.

Command Works Again

Any comments or suggestions? Just as usual. Write it in the form below.

Norton Ghost 2003 and SATA

I just installed a new PC (with Windows) and wanted to backup the C (System) drive using Norton Ghost 2003. Don’t ask me why I am still using the old version instead of the new one, since this is the only one I have in my hand. The installation was just fine as well as the backup setting, then it asked me to reboot the PC. OK. Click and reboot..

After the blank screen, the ghost process notified me that there was an error and can not continue the task. It asked me to run “ghreboot“. No doubt, I run it and nothing happened.

Norton Ghost help on the web returned me nothing, except that the problem is caused by a virtual partition created by Norton Ghost as an active partition. I contacted my old friend asking for this problem and gave me a direction.  He said that Norton Ghost 2003 is not compatible with SATA devices.

Here is how to solve the problem if you face it.

  1. Boot from any bootable CD from where you can run fdisk
  2. After it give you a command prompt, run: fdisk
  3. Choose to display partition and you will see a partition labeled : –VPGHOST
  4. Delete this partition
  5. Activate your Bootable Partition
  6. Exit fdisk
  7. Reboot

Voila. You should notice your Windows loading screen. Then you can install the new version of Norton Ghost :D

Warning:  Use it at your own risk. I used Windows XP and Windows 98 for the Boot CD.
