The better names are often taken already, and a lot of times you can do "pretty good" with a domain name, not perfect. Certainly, it's a lot easier to get ahead if the tips above are followed, but if not, all is not lost! Good post.

I had an experience dealing with domain.com and domain.net. Domain.com is owned by competitor while domain.net is mine. So it will be disaster if my customer send inquiry to: info@domain.com instead of info@domain.net. When I asked why he sent to info@domain.com, he said "I think your domain is .com" And yes, it was a disaster :D There are so many reason for people on choosing domain.
