Remember if you feel iPhoto doesn't offer enough editing power you can set your editing to be performed by an external application (such as Photoshop) in the iPhoto Preferences. I suppose it boils down to personal preference but I prefer the workflow in Aperture. I've never found iPhoto's editing capabilities to be adequate, and prior to Aperture, had always used Photoshop Elements as an external editor, an option still available in Aperture for edits requiring masks
