The Samsung Galaxy Note is expected to release with AT&T phone service on February 19th.  Though it may be considered a little on the larger side of smart phones, the added tablet-like features do make the latest addition to the touchscreen mobile device arsenal a competitive option.

The Galaxy Note boasts a 5.3-inch screen, a weight of 6.45 ounces, 16GB of hard space and a 32-48GB SD expansion card option. One of the most notable additions to the touchscreen smartphone is a stylus.  Not exactly a revolutionary addition to harken back to the days of the original PDA devices of years ago with a stylus, but the pressure to boldness sensitivity ratio will make the handwriting aspect of the stylus more realistic.

The 1280×800 resolution screen, wi-fi connectivity and 1.5GHz dual-core processor will make it a pretty viable option for streaming video.  With an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and 1080p video capture and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, the interactive media aspect of this phone is sure to result in some fancy YouTube additions.

While the Note runs on Android Gingerbread 2.3 it isn’t exactly going to compete with a tablet, so what market will this oversized smartphone fit into?  There are going to be no complaints about the processing power and app running capability, or about the color contrast and the fun and ease of the device.  The only predictions against its high sales will have to do with the size.  Even though it is sleek and flat in design, the 5.3-inch screen will be difficult for pocket storage and single-handed operational comfort.  If you just need a phone to be a phone, maybe this isn’t the best choice for you, but if you’re into gaming, streaming or need a work-phone to double as a notepad, the Galaxy Note may just be the device for you.
