Registering your blog to your account is also useful for webmasters claim blog (stating that the blog is yours). If you create a blog on blogger.com automatically you will have a webmasters account and do not need to claim your blog. Once registered on the webmasters account are encouraged to add a sitemap so that search engines crawl the blog easier.
The next thing after having an account is to allow webmasters spider (a tool for search engine crawlers) to explore the blog.
